Google Voice Charging For Calls In Canada

For some time now, google voice has allowed free calls to Canada in addition to free calling within the US. It seems however that this is not working correctly, at least for calls originating in Canada.

A number of wifitalk.ca readers have confirmed that their google voice accounts are being charged for calls they make from Canada to another Canadian number in the google voice how-to in Canada comments:

The free $0.10 you get in your google voice account is apparently being depleted for these calls to Canadian numbers, despite the fact that calls to Canada should be free.

Any users who use google voice to call Canada, please comment with your recent experiences, whether you’re in Canada or in the US.

UPDATE: It seems that not every user or configuration is affected:

UPDATE 2: The problem is being discussed on the google voice blog discussion forum. It seems that the charges were temporary and only for yesterday. Most people seem to be able to call Canada for free today.
